March 7, 2012

It has been a month since the last update because very little was happening at the job site.  Our crew was busy at another project as we allowed most of the pine for the walls to get acclimatized to the humidity level in the cottage in order to reduce shrinkage after the installation.

However everyone is now back and work is proceeding at a very fast pace.  Yesterday over half a dozen activities were in progress.

1. The fireplace doors were installed

2. The painter had whitewashed Megan's room, had stained the stairs, and was at work staining the stair railing before installation. The doors are all stained are are waiting for the walls to be finished before they can be installed

3. The tile installers were installing the slate in the main floor bathroom for approval before proceeding with the rest of the main floor

4. The pine on the bedroom walls has been done and Adam was working on the Master Bedroom walls and ceiling.  The trim will only be done after the floor and the doors are installed

The cedar in the upstairs bathrooms is almost all done

The hallway walls are done and the stair to the attic is in place

5. Jon and Matt had installed the rest of the shakes on the front gable and were working on the front fascia and soffit.  The temperature was in the teens so Jon was working in a T-shirt

6. The hickory for the second floor is all on site and the installer was getting his equipment ready to start the installation on Friday

A lot has been accomplished over the last two weeks, and it is starting to look more like a finished cottage.
